Referring to DCDC

Refer a Client

We primarily staff volunteer abortion support shifts at our partner clinics: Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington Carol Whitehill Moses Center and Falls Church Healthcare Center. On a patient-by-patient basis, DCDC doulas provide support to people having abortions at other clinics in the DC area. 

If your client has an appointment at one of our partner clinics and would like abortion support, you can reach out to dcdoulasforchoice@gmail.com to confirm we have a doula on shift for their appointment.


Eligibility

We are only able to support people who meet the following criteria:

  • The client is in the DC metro area or traveling to the DC metro area to receive abortion care. 
  • The client is seeking emotional, physical, or informational support. While we can help connect to financial and practical support (transportation, lodging, childcare, meals, etc), we do NOT provide these services directly. 


Information

To provide a referral, please email dcdoulasforchoice@gmail.com or fill out our contact form with the following information:

  • Contact information of client. Before contacting DCDC, confirm with the client that they are comfortable connecting with DCDC and having their information shared. 
  • Description of the support client is looking for (e.g., during procedure support, after abortion support, informational/logistical support securing an appointment, religious support, etc) and preferences for doulas (e.g., doula of same racial identity or sexual orientation, with experience supporting religious people, experience supporting minors). 
  • Gestational age, if known
  • Any other information you think would be helpful in matching them with a doula, including special circumstances.
  • If possible, appointment information (e.g., clinic, date, time). We do not require people to have an appointment before seeking support, but it can be helpful.


Process

We aim to respond to referral requests within 24-48 hours. As a volunteer collective, we may not always have someone available to match your client’s needs and timeframe, but we will contact you regardless to provide additional resources and guidance.
